On May 31, policy-makers and organizations that work for survivors and victims of crimes like domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, child abuse, and elder abuse will unite for a rally at San Jose City Hall. The rally will protest funding cuts to life-saving services.
Recent federal cuts may result in a $700 million reduction in the VOCA (Victims of Crimes Act) fund in the fiscal year 2024-25. These cuts threaten the delivery of care services and other support for crime victims across the state. The San Jose event will follow a rally on May 30 held on the West Steps of Capitol Hall in Sacramento.
Maitri, a Bay-area advocacy group for domestic violence survivors, will organize a saree walk as part of the rally. Other organizations involved in the rally are the County of Santa Clara District Attorney’s Office, Community Solutions, SAVE, the Step Forward Foundation, YWCA Golden Gate Silicon Valley, Futures Without Violence, and the South Bay Coalition to End Human Trafficking.
