Ode to Inauguration: A Writer Speaks

Ode to Inauguration

I was seven when it first happened.

A man put his hand under the polka dots of my dress.

Then I did not move and lay still.

“ I grab a woman by the pussy.”

Have you heard of the marches around the country?

I will be wearing a “pussy” hat when I march.

I was eight or nine when still it happened–

Inside my underwear rough man hands,

They brushed against my body and seared my skin.

“..Just kiss. Don’t even wait.”

Don’t even wait for pubic hair or breasts.

I will wear a “pussy” hat,

I will march tomorrow.

Piece de resistance.
