From the moment they’re born, children are learning. Every coo, every giggle, every curious reach for a toy is helping build the foundation for how they’ll grow, think, and interact with the world. In fact, 90% of a child’s brain develops by the time they turn five. These early years are critical, and the right support can make all the difference.

That’s where early learning programs come in. Whether it’s nurturing childcare, a preschool setting, a family childcare home, a childcare center, or transitional kindergarten, these programs help children build the academic, social, and emotional skills they’ll need for success in school and life. And while families are a child’s first and most important teachers, professional educators play a big role too, providing safe, engaging environments where kids can thrive.

Feel confident in your decision

If you’re searching for the right early learning program, you’re not alone — and you don’t have to do it alone. The Santa Clara County Childcare Resource & Referral (R&R) Program is here to help families like yours find the care and support your child needs to grow and thrive.

Whether you’re looking for care close to home, need a certain schedule, or want a program that speaks your family’s language, the R&R team can guide you to make an informed decision for your family that you’re confident about. Last year alone, they helped more than 3,000 families explore childcare options across the county. And they’re ready to help you find programs for your little learners. Support from the R&R is free.

Support for your budget

We know cost is one of the biggest concerns for families. That’s why the R&R Program can connect families to financial assistance options, including:

  • Alternative Payment Programs
  • Subsidized Early Learning Programs
  • California State Preschool Programs
  • Head Start and Early Head Start
  • Other community-based programs

Visit the R&R Program website, call (669) 212-5437, or email childcarescc@sccoe.org to find a program that best meets your needs.

It’s time to think about transitional kindergarten

If your child is four years of age, it may be time to consider transitional kindergarten, the first year of a two-year kindergarten program to prepare young students for academic success. Transitional kindergarten is offered through the public school system, meaning your local school district. This program is free to all students regardless of income. Please check with your local district for enrollment information or visit the R&R Program website for preliminary information

Thinking about a career in childcare?

If you’re already providing childcare or thinking about opening a family home childcare business, the R&R Program supports roughly 2,000 local providers with tools, training, and resources. They can even guide you through the process of becoming a licensed provider. There’s a growing network of passionate professionals supporting Santa Clara County’s youngest learners.
