According to multiple exit polls, the BJP-led NDA (National Democratic Alliance) is likely to sweep the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in India. The exit poll results from June 1, the last day of polling in across the nation which took place in seven phases, suggest that the NDA will win between 355 and 380 seats, which represents a two-thirds majority in the 543-seat Lok Sabha. The Election Commission of India will announce the final results on June 4.

Parties or alliances that win more than half the seats – in this case, 272 – will be invited to form the new government. In the 2019 election, the NDA secured 353 seats, of which BJP accounted for 303.

After voting concluded, Prime Minister Modi took to social media site X to express his confidence in the NDA’s victory. However, the Opposition INDI Alliance bloc led by the Congress Party thinks otherwise.

Exit polls indicate that the INDI Alliance will secure between 125 to 165 seats. However, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge rubbished these results and claimed that the INDI Alliance will secure 295 seats or more in this election. Another Congress spokesperson called the exit poll a “government poll meant to please PM Modi”.
