Madhubala: The Shadows Behind the Spotlight

July 25 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm PDT

On Saturday, July 25, 2026, Soul Jam will present Madhubala: The Shadows Behind the Spotlight at The Royal Room in Seattle. Soul Jam is an independent artistic initiative created by Seattle-based musicians to reimagine Indian cultural storytelling through live music, poetry, narration, and intimate acoustic arrangements inspired by timeless Hindi cinema melodies.

This upcoming edition explores Madhubala not only as one of Indian cinema’s most iconic stars, but as Mumtaz Jehan Dehlavithe young woman behind the public image, whose life was shaped by extraordinary talent, sacrifice, resilience, and vulnerability.

The show is fully nonprofit and supports Live2Serve Foundation, a Seattle-based 501(c)(3) organization focused on community service, Indian representation, upliftment, and empowerment.

We believe this story goes beyond a concert. It reflects how Indian diaspora artists are finding new ways to preserve cultural memory, connect generations, and share India’s artistic heritage with wider audiences in the United States.

Advance tickets can only be purchased online-we do not sell advance tickets at the venue. Refunds are not available within 48 hours of the event. Tickets do not guarantee seating during shows at the Royal Room.

We are now accepting reservations for diners! After purchasing tickets, please visit the Reservations page to book a table. Table reservations require advance tickets, and are only for guests who plan to dine at the Royal Room. We do not take reservations over the phone. Seating for non-diners is first come, first served. Please arrive early to guarantee a seat!

They carved her image in starlight and called her the Venus of India. But icons are rarely born, they are written.

We all know the dazzling cadence of her onscreen laughter, the hypnotic gaze that defined an era of cinema, and the legendary smile of Madhubala. But before the flashbulbs and the fame, there was a quiet girl named Mumtaz Jehan Dehlavi. This Soul Jam, we pull back the heavy curtains of stardom to tell the story of the woman who lived behind the masterpiece. Was the fame her dream, or a script handed down by someone else? And what happened when she finally dared to write a single line for herself?

It is a musical chronicle told through the language of soulful storytelling, seamlessly woven into a live acoustic landscape of timeless melodies and modern rhythms.
