The Indian government has carried out a military operation, targeting nine terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Administered Kashmir (PAK), according to a Ministry of Defence statement released shortly after midnight on Wednesday.
The operation — called Operation Sindoor — only targeted terrorist infrastructure and no Pakistani military sites were attacked, according to the statement.
“Our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted. India has demonstrated considerable restraint in selection of targets and method of execution,” read the statement.
Reuters reports that loud explosions were heard in multiple places in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir in the early hours of Wednesday. Following the explosions, there was a loss of power in Muzaffarabad, the capital of PAK.
Pakistani newspaper Dawn reports that Lt. Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the Director General of Pakistan’s military public relations wing has confirmed that Indian missile attacks took place in Muzaffarabad, Bagh, and Kotli in PAK; and Bahawalpur, and Murdike in Pakistan.
Tensions between the two countries have been high since the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, in which terrorists killed 26 people.
When asked about it, U.S. President Donald Trump said, “It’s a shame… I guess people knew something was gonna happen… they’ve been fighting for a long time, many many decades… I just hope it ends very quickly.”
This is a developing story.
