2-Day 25th Mahasivaratri Dance Celebration

Please consider this as our personal invitation to attend the 25th Mahasivaratri Dance Celebration. Your presence will bring us immense joy knowing you support this event. Please enjoy the beautiful /unique offerings of the artists, on the auspicious occasion of Mahasivaratri. The artists are listed in the attached flier.

The theme for this year, “A Rose by any other name…..” , suggests that the Devi (Divine Mother) is present in each of us. On Saturday, the dancers show how each of us apprehend the Devi in our own unique way. Feb. 14th also happens to be Valentine’s day, a perfect day to celebrate Devi, the personification of Love

As we flow into Sunday, Feb 15, the verse “Asatoma Sad Gamaya…” serves as an inspiration. The evening will bring out the play/ display of Prakriti. When players lose their sense of play, and get entrapped in untruth, darkness and fear, the only way out is the way in – towards the center! We seek the divine fragrance that is so subtle, we forget it is everywhere.

The underlying theme of these 2 days is gratitude; the gratitude to the Devi – the nurturer of the Arts, the Gurus – who help us stay in touch with the divine fragrance, and to Lord Shiva – the compassionate one, and yes – gratitude for all your support and participation these 25 years.

We welcome our visual artists of our community and thank them for sharing their artwork in both physical and virtual display. Interestingly, the picture in the flier is also from a painting on glass by Pameena Galler. We have Dance Theater and Sound Healing as special additions to our evening of Classical Indian Dances.

A big thanks to Reverend Dana Bainbridge of Urban Sanctuary Church for allowing us this beautiful facility to hold our event. Smita has been the brainchild to bring the visual artists together, and I thank her for her many suggestions and support. Kavita Thirumalai has been amazing in helping bring everything together seamlessly. A big thanks to all the volunteers who are supporting this event and many more who have helped in the past years.
