President-elect Donald Trump has picked entrepreneurs Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy as the co-leads for the Department of Governmental Efficiency (DOGE). This is a new department that will work outside the confines of the government to reduce bureaucracy within the American government and make it more efficient.

In a statement, Trump said that Musk and Ramaswamy will “dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures and restructure federal agencies.” The release also mentions that the department’s work will end by July 4, 2026, and that the increased government efficiency will be the perfect gift for the country for its 250th anniversary. The acronym of the department DOGE is believed to be a nod to Dogecoin, a cryptocurrency that Musk has promoted in the past.

On his social networking site X, Musk posted, “The world is suffering slow strangulation by overregulation. Every year, the noose tightens a little more. We finally have a mandate to delete the mountain of choking regulations that do not serve the greater good.”

Ramaswamy also posted on the platform, “Politicians have talked for a long time about cutting the size of government. But when they get inside, they go native. If we’re ever going to crush the bureaucracy, it’s going to happen from the outside. Just the hard truth.”
