The USA, co-hosts of the Men’s ICC T20 World Cup defeated Pakistan on June 6 in Dallas, Texas. Captain Monank Patel, Aaron Jones and Nitish Kumar starred with the bat, while Saurabh Netravalkar and Noshthush Kenjige led a spirited bowling attack to pull off the first major upset of the tournament so far.

After winning the toss, the USA chose to bowl first. Kenjige picked up three wickets and Netravalkar two to restrict Pakistan to 159/7 in their 20 overs. Then, Monank Patel, Andries Gous and Aaron Jones made useful contributions before Nitish Kumar hit a boundary off the last ball to tie the game.

In the Super Over, the USA scored 18 runs, thanks largely to some wayward bowling and fielding by Pakistan. In response, Pakistan could only score 13 runs, handing USA a memorable victory in their first-ever T20 World Cup. Before this game, the USA beat Canada in the tournament opener on June 1.

Both Pakistan and the USA will play their next game against India, on June 9 and June 12 respectively. India started their campaign with a convincing victory against Ireland on June 5.
