India Currents photojournalist and catchlight Local Fellow Sree Sripathy’s groundbreaking series ‘We Belong’ is a traveling exhibit at different San Jose Public Library locations from April 25 to July 29, 2024.
This is part of India Currents’ efforts to engage with the Indian American community beyond the digital realm. The traveling exhibit brings relatable stories to life, helping develop deeper connections within the community. The goal of showcasing this exhibit in various library branches is to create opportunities for meaningful conversations and shared experiences. It allows visitors to explore and express their own narratives, enriching the collective understanding.
In this series, San Jose native Sripathy features Bay Area South Asians who connect to their heritage in myriad ways – through their work, their hobbies, food, music, dance, and travel. She showcases these individuals through stunning portraits and interviews them about their stories and experiences.
“It’s really lovely to see these portraits of Indians being represented so people get a sense of the diversity of the subcontinent and diaspora,” said Sripathy. “That these images are on display in the libraries of my hometown is even more special.”
Through these efforts, India Currents aims to build a stronger, more connected community, one story at a time.
