On January 5, the Sikh Research institute (SikhRI) launched the Guru Granth Sahib Online Dictionary, which includes English translations, in-depth interpretations of the Guru Granth Sahib, which is the primary religious text for Sikhs. The dictionary also presents commentaries and research about the historical, musical, and poetic essence of the text in Punjabi and English.

The Guru Granth Sahib Project (TGGSP) Team worked with technology partner Sequent to present this dictionary as a user-centric platform for seekers, scholars, and students of Sikhi worldwide. The dictionary is available at gurugranthsahibdictionary.io, while supplementary information like interpretations and commentaries can be found on the TGGSP platform.

“It can be used in a Punjabi or English version, which presents entries in Gurmukhi or Romanized Punjabi, their complete grammatical analysis, and present Prakrit, Old Punjabi, Persian, Arabic, Braj, Sindhi, Gujarati, and Sanskrit etymologies” said Dr. Nikky-Guninder Kaur Singh, Chair of Religious Studies at Colby College. “The website is indeed an invaluable linguistic resource for the layperson and the scholar alike.”
