In an exclusive interview with the Hindu Policy Research and Advocacy Collective (HinduPACT), Michigan’s 13th Congressional District Representative Shri Thanedar spoke about the Hindu community’s concerns in the United States today. He discussed the need to protect personal freedoms and condemned incidents that undermine Hindus’ ability to practice their religion.
In keeping with his efforts to build civic engagement among the Hindu community, Rep. Thanedar has formed a Hindu caucus in Congress. He also urged the Hindu community to unite against hate crimes and vandalism of temples by utilizing Homeland Security grants to protect their places of worship.
“We must show that we will not tolerate fear and hate, and we will spread the truth about Hindu Dharma,” he said, calling on Hindus to take an active role in American politics and form relations with their own elected representatives.
