The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) honored philanthropists Shaheen Nanji and Anil Nanji for their association with, and support for the orchestra for almost three decades. At its annual gala, LACO bestowed the Heartstrings Award on the couple.
The gala was held on April 6 at the Skirball Cultural Center’s Ahmanson Ballroom to honor the Nanjis, and music talent agents Michael Gorfaine and Sam Schwartz for their contribution to Hollywood. More than 360 guests attended the invite-only event, raising more than $1 million for the night.
Shaheen and Anil Nanji grew up in different parts of the world, before emigrating to Los Angeles where they got married in 1988. Shaheen trained and worked as a civil litigator while Anil is founder and president of a manufacturing firm. Both of them are heavily involved in philanthropic ventures to support the arts, and to deliver health and education services to underserved communities around the world.
