On December 9, Sankara Eye Foundation (SEF) hosted the “Be The Vision” Gala at the Signia by Hilton in San Jose. The event was a celebration of SEF’s 25th year anniversary.
In keeping with SEF’s mission of helping the visually impaired through free eye surgeries, the attendees enjoyed their food in the dark, a moving experience that underlined the struggles that the visually impaired face everyday. The band Sixth Sense played live music throughout the night, while dignitaries like Operations and Administration president Bharath Balasubramaniam; Chairman and CEO Murali Krishnamurthy; and COO Divyogi Patel shared the organization’s highlights of the year with the attendees.
Owing to its commitment to social service, 2023 was the ninth consecutive year that SEF received a 4-Star Rating from Charity Navigator. The organization has now performed over 2.2 million free eye surgeries since its inception, of which 356,000 were performed in 2023. The goal is to perform more than a million eye surgeries annually, by the year 2030. To help achieve this goal, the SEF intends to set up new hospitals and expand facilities in Varanasi, Mathura, Solapur, and Guntur, Kanpur and Patna.
Inspired by the organization’s success so far, and united in their commitment to eliminate curable blindness in India, the attendees raised a sum of $840,000 for Sankara Eye Foundation through donations and anticipated contributions.
