“Othello” Goes Bollywood

Shakespeare’s Othello will be morphed into Bollywood through Reetu Patel, artistic founder of MAD Bollywood Dance Company, and artistic director of Me And Dance Academy.

“White Orchid,” Patel’s interpretation of Othello, and “Jashan: Celebration of Dance” will showcase a total of 20 unmatched, exclusive, and nonrepeating choreographies accentuated by the presence of master Terence Lewis, coming all the way from India for this production.

Me And Dance Academy, the first and only Bollywood dance academy in Orange County according to Patel, boasts classes in Indian classical, folk, hip hop, contemporary, jazz, ballet, zumba, standard Bollywood, and Reetu’s self-designed Bollywood.
Lewis says, “Whenever I see new and promising talent, I will support it, nurture it, and give by blessings every single time.”

Patel feels that production is unique in its  appeals to the general American community, as well as Indian-American audiences.

MAD Bollywood Dance Company and Me And Dance Academy were both founded two years ago, are based in Tustin, and offer classes for all ages and all demographics.

The Orange County Health and Wellness Exposition on at the Westin, featured a Bollywood workout provided by Reetu’s “Hit & Fit” routine. Over 1,500 people attended the event. The attendees experienced workout shaking every single muscle in the body and getting a total body workout in about 45 minutes.

Patel has trained with Natraj Gopi Krishna School of Kathak, Saroj Khan School of Bollywood, and Terence Lewis School of Indian Contemporary. She says she is on a “mission to bring real Bollywood” to the limelight in America.
