Origin, directed by trailblazing director Ava DuVernay, is set to release in select theaters on December 8 at AMC Lincoln Square in New York and AMC Century City in Los Angeles for a special engagement that will last one week.

The film is inspired by Isabel Wilkerson’s bestselling book Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents, in which the author drew parallels between the oppressions of Black people in the U.S., of the Jewish people in Nazi Germany, and finally, of Dalits in Indian society. As a result, parts of the film are set in India, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar is a character in the film.

The film stars Academy Award nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor in the lead role, while sociologist and activist Gaurav J. Pathania plays Dr. Ambedkar. You can watch the teaser trailer of the film here.
