A new, streamlined application process makes it easier for Non-Resident Indians – with Indian passports- to apply for the Aadhar Card. Previously NRI’s had to prove residency requirements to obtain the card, but amendments now allow NRIs with Indian passports to obtain the card upon arrival in India. It eliminates the previous requirement for 182 days of residency

According to India TV News, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced new enrollment forms designed specifically for NRIs. Revisions are based on age groups and categories that separate adults, children, and foreign nationals.

The Forms include:

  1. Form 1: Aadhar Enrollment & Update for individuals 18 years and older who have proof of an Indian address. The form allows initial enrollment and for subsequent updates.
  2. Form 2: For NRI’s: This form allows enrollment and updates for NRIs who can provide proof of an address outside India.
  3. Form 3-6: For Children:
Form 3: This form covers enrollment for children 5-under 18, residents or NRI children who have proof of an Indian address.
Form 4: This is for children who do not have proof of an Indian address
Form 5: For Indian children under 5 years of age with proof of Indian residency
Form 6. For Indian children under 5 years of age with proof of foreign residency
  4. Form 7: For Foreign Nationals: The form covers foreign nationals over 18 years of age who have a foreign passport, an OCI Card, a valid-long-term Indian visa and an email ID for enrollment updates.
  5. Form 8: Allows minor resident foreign nationals under 18 years to process Aadhaar enrollment and updates.
  6. Form 9: Allows individuals who reach 18 years of age to cancel their Aadhaar number.

The sought-after Aaadhar is one of the most accepted proofs of identity for vital transactions like opening a bank account, dealing with property or filing taxes.
