Suvidha International Foundation, the Art of Living Foundation and the Silicon Valley Global Impact Rotary Club successfully organized 5K and 10K runs in Sacramento on April 23, Fremont on July 15, and Redmond, Washington on August 23, 2023. The events drew more than 500 participants who ran to raise money to support river rejuvenation projects in South India.

The proceeds will help fund projects like construction of recharge bore wells, recharge wells, water pools, rock fill dams, and subsurface dykes in the districts of YSR-Kadapa, Anantapur, Chittoor, Kurnool, Srikakulam, and Prakasam in Andhra Pradesh.

A United Nations report released in May predicts that India will face severe water scarcity by the year 2050. This is because of a fast increasing population coupled with pre-existing stresses on water systems in the country. As a result, rejuvenating India’s rivers and recharging the groundwater table are important steps that might help mitigate the impacts of water scarcity in the coming years.
