On February 18, Indian-American actor, writer, producer, and director Mindy Kaling received her own star on Los Angeles’ Hollywood Walk of Fame. She is the first South Asian woman to receive this honor.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, an iconic landmark consists of 2800 stars set into the pavement blocks. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce manages the attraction, dedicating each star to an accomplished member of the entertainment industry. Kaling’s is the 2800th and the newest star.

In a social media post, Kaling wrote, “Yesterday was one of the most special days of my life! I was surrounded by my dearest friends and family for the surreal and humbling experience of receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I was told after receiving my star that I was the first South Asian woman to have a star on the Walk of Fame. I’m humbled by that. I am so proud to be South Asian and I want to make my community proud of everything I do but more importantly I want to help usher in the next generation of South Asian stars – who are already making a huge impact across the world.”

An established artist in the world of television and movies for the past two decades, Kaling is one of the most accomplished Indian-Americans in the industry. She has been involved in various roles behind and in front of the camera in popular series like The Office and is the creator of shows like The Mindy Project, and Never Have I Ever.
