The Indian men’s hockey team has won bronze at the 2024 Olympics in Paris after defeating Spain 2-1 in a tight encounter on Thursday. Captain Harmanpreet Singh scored both the goals after his team went 0-1 down in the first half to secure victory. Earlier, the Indian team missed out on gold and silver when they lost a close match against Germany (3-2).

In the bronze medal match, Spain drew first blood when captain Marc Miralles scored a goal in the second quarter. Team India came back strong in the third quarter, with captain Harmanpreet scoring two goals. In the fourth quarter, goalkeeper PR Sreejesh effected a save in the fourth quarter, before the whistle sealed victory for India. This was also the veteran goalkeeper’s final match for India as he retires from international hockey with an Olympic medal.

The Indian men’s hockey team clinched bronze at the Olympics for the second time in a row after their impressive showing in Tokyo in 2020. This was India’s 13th hockey medal in the Olympics.
