SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. – Today is the last day for eligible residents in California to register to vote in time for the November 5, 2024, Presidential General Election – only 15 days away. California residents who have not yet registered can do so online through the Secretary of State’s website, registertovote.ca.gov. If you are registering or re-registering after the deadline you will need to complete the Same-Day Voter Registration, known as Conditional Voter Registration, which is a safety net for Californians who miss the deadline. Voters who missed the registration deadline can request a ballot at the Registrar of Voters Office located at 1555 Berger Drive, San Jose CA 95112, or at any of our Vote Centers starting October 26.
To register, individuals must meet the following requirements, as outlined by the Secretary of State:
- Be a United States citizen
- Be a resident of California
- Be at least 18 years old on Election Day, November 5, 2024
- Not currently serving a state or federal prison term for a felony conviction
- Not currently found mentally incompetent to vote by a court
Once registered, voters are encouraged to make a plan for how they will cast their ballots, whether by mail, at a Vote Center, or an Official Drop Box. All active registered voters will be mailed a Vote-by-Mail packet, which must be returned and postmarked by Election Day and received by our office within seven days.
