Democratic Presidential nominee Kamala Harris has picked Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate on the ticket for the Presidential elections in November. The pick is expected to strengthen the Democratic Party’s position in the Midwestern states.

On X, Walz posted his reaction to the announcement, saying, “It is the honor of a lifetime to join @kamalaharrisin this campaign. I’m all in.”

Before his career in politics, he was a high-school teacher and high-school football coach. In his post, he likened joining the Democratic ticket to that experience, saying, “It reminds me a bit of the first day of school!”

Walz urged the country to join him and Harris in the “politics of what’s possible”, adding “So let’s get this done, folks! Join us”

According to reports, Walz was one of six individuals on VP shortlist along with Govs. Andy Beshear of Kentucky, J.B. Pritzker of Illinois, and Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania; Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona; and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. Shapiro and Walz made the final two with Harris informing Waltz about his selection by video call on Tuesday.

Walz is a longtime Democrat politician, serving his second term as Governor of Minnesota at the moment. Previously, he served as a Congressman for twelve years, representing the conservative-leaning First District of Minnesota. Before joining politics he served in the Army National Guard, attaining the rank of command sergeant major.
