India Currents has proved once again that we are an award winning team!
Our writers and contributors won 10 awards for excellence in journalism on Dec 8th, 2022 at the 45th San Francisco Press Club Awards, up against some pretty stiff competition! The event celebrated the best in journalism from the past year, recognizing the hard work and dedication of reporters, writers, editors, and photographers.
The India Currents team continues to produce outstanding stories. Srishti Prabha was recognized for her coverage on the importance of desi grocery stores during the pandemic, as were stories on Desi Voters by Jaya Padmanabhan, Meera Kymal and Ritu Marwah. Winners included Avatans Kumar, Ayanna Gandhi, and Medha Sarkar, for their Desi Voices commentaries. Our investigative series on transnational abandonment by Meera Kymal and Anjana Nagarajan-Butaney continues its winning streak.
As a nonprofit news organization, we’re committed to telling stories about our community that might otherwise go untold. These awards confirm that the stories we cover and the people we represent really do matter!
