India Currents’ photo series ‘We Belong’ is now a traveling exhibit that will be on display at different San Jose Public Library locations from Sept. 18, 2024, to January 12, 2025.

“We Belong” is a visual exploration highlighting the different experiences of South Asian identity; it was a groundbreaking year-long project by CatchLight Local Fellow Sree Sripathy during her tenure as India Currents’ in-house photo journalist.

In June 2024, Sripathy made a virtual presentation at Lincoln Elementary in Cupertino, introducing a class of fifth-grade students to visual journalism. Around 100 students from four different Lincoln Elementary classrooms participated in the presentation.

India Currents is showcasing the We Belong exhibit at schools and libraries in the Bay Area to foster meaningful conversations and shared experiences. It creates opportunities for visitors to explore and express their own narratives, enriching our collective understanding of South Asian identity and belonging. The traveling exhibit brings relatable stories to life, helping develop deeper connections within the community.

Through the We Belong series India Currents intends to build a stronger, more connected community, one story at a time.
