Ustad Rashid Khan, one of India’s most respected Hindustani Classical singers died after a prolonged battle with prostate cancer on January 9, 2024. The singer was 55 years old and is survived by a wife, two sons and a daughter. 

Khan was one of the most popular exponents of the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana of Hindustani Classical music. He was known for his performances of taraanas and jugalbandis, and has also lent his voice to Bollywood tracks. 

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was one of the many notable personalities who paid tribute to him. Banerjee also said that his body will be taken to Rabindra Sadan in Kolkata where admirers can pay their respects. The last rites will be performed on Wednesday, following a gun salute and state honors.
