On May 15, the New York State Senate bestowed the Liberty Medal upon Dr. Hari Krishna Shukla, a pedicatric doctor who has been practicing for the past four decades. This is the Senate’s highest civilian honor, awarded to citizens for their commendable actions on behalf of their fellow New Yorkers and their community.

Dr. Shukla rose to prominence after discovering ‘Shukla’s formula’ which can determine the ideal position of umbilical catheters in prematurely born sick infants. Since the publication of his research in 1986, doctors have used this formula to deliver better care to millions of premature infants all over the world.

Senator Toby Ann Stavisky awarded Dr. Shukla the medal in a ceremony at the New York State Senate in Albany, New York. Previously, the Senate adopted a resolution to honor Dr. Shukla’s contributions in the field of Pediatric-Neonatal Medicine.
