In the rarest of rare cases, the screenplay of a film is released before the film itself. That’s what makes Gour Hari Dastaan a very special film story. The screenplay was launched by violin maestro Dr L Subramaniam and former top cop Julio Ribeiro. The lead actors Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shorey and Tannishtha Chatterjee read out special set pieces too.
The book, jointly penned by renowned journalist and novelist CP Surendran and the film’s director Ananth Narayan Mahadevan, was released on Tuesday.
Surendran said that they released the screenplay, which documents the real-life struggle of 84-year-old freedom fighter Gour Hari Das, as a way for aficionados to see how the words have been translated by Ananth Mahadevan into actions and gestures. The published screenplay also includes “five or six scenes” that haven’t made the final cut. Surendran, a published poet and novelist who has worked in several publications in his career, was editor-in-chief of DNA until April.
The film stars Vinay Pathak as Das, as well as Konkona Sen Sharma and Ranvir Shorey, amongst others. Konkana Sen Sharma plays the 65-year-old Lakshmi Das, wife of freedom fighter Gour Hari Das. The film is set to release on Friday this week.
