The Global Organization of People of Indian Origin Connecticut Chapter (GOPIO-CT) kicked off its 2025 activities with a celebratory event on Friday, February 7th in Stamford. The evening featured the swearing-in of the newly elected Executive team, led by President Mahesh Jhangiani. Connecticut State Senator Prof. Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox administered the oath.
The event also served as a platform to honor Senator Gadkar-Wilcox on her historic victory in the November 2024 elections, making her the first Connecticut state senator of Asian origin. During the event, GOPIO-CT presented a $5,000 donation to Wheel It Forward, a local charity chosen by the organization for its annual fundraising efforts.
Previously, the chapter has contributed $25,000 to Norwalk Community College Foundation for scholarships, $25,000 to Future 5 for educational support to Stamford high school students, and $10,000 to the Society for Human and Environmental Development (SHED) for their work in India. Attendees also pledged $2,000 towards sponsoring eight soup kitchens at the New Covenant House in Stamford, an initiative that provides meals for approximately 100 people in need.
