“Of all the travels in my book, Hemkund Sahib was the first travelogue I wrote. When back in Rishikesh, I felt a novel urge to share my pilgrimage experience,” says retired Indian IRS officer Pravin Varma, who experienced an epiphany after the pandemic, “The lockdown in 2020 brought a life-changing turn.” As the specter of COVID-19 diminished in 2022, he rediscovered his passion for travel and documented his experiential journeys in his debut “Travel with Me To India”
Varma traveled with his wife Alpana to 61 locations in India in 2022 and 2023. “Travel with Me To India” is a compilation of travelogs about Indian locations that Varma visited in including a border town in Nepal. It’s a small volume – each small chapter is just 2-3 pages long and “can be read on the go,” says Varma.
Each travelog describes the history, cultural, religious, and socio-economic significance of each place along with personal insights. The travelogs cover a range of topics – Varma’s love for flora, fauna, and wildlife, hill stations in the northeast both exotic and off the beaten track, prehistoric remains and modern high-tech horizons, culinary destinations, and a calling to the faithful. “I chronicle my love for India through my travelogs. Through my writings I have tried to capture the beauty of my vibrant country,” says Varma. He hopes to make readers “fall in love with India again and again!”
