Washington Health Road to Wellness Family Health Fair: Celebrating Two Years of Trauma Care

Washington Health’s Aug. 22 Road to Wellness Health Fair offers free health checks, pediatric dental screenings, bike helmets, children’s activities, giveaways and entertainment

Washington Health is inviting families throughout the Tri-City community to its free Road to Wellness Health Fair: Celebrating Two Years of Trauma Care on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Washington West parking lot, 2500 Mowry Ave. in Fremont.

 

The community event will offer something for nearly every member of the family – from free health checks to free bike helmets, treats and giveaways, face painting, balloon animals and live cultural music and dance performances.

 

Families can also meet local physicians, clinicians, first responders and community health partners while learning simple ways to help keep themselves and their children healthy and safe.

 

“As a community hospital and trauma center, we’re dedicated to serving our district residents and the Washington Health Road to Wellness Health Fair: Celebrating Two Years of Trauma Care is just one of the ways we connect with our community to share important information about how to stay safe and thrive,” said Kayla Gupta, Washington Health Community Outreach Manager. “We are pleased to help local families connect with the people who make up their regional Trauma Center as well as its nonprofit partners.”

 

Free Health Checks and Services

 

Adults attending the fair can receive complimentary glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure checks, while children can receive free pediatric dental screenings provided by Union City dentist Michael Suh, DDS.

 

Pediatrician Shilpa Sulochana, MD, and plastic surgeon Prasad Kilaru, MD, will also be among the specialized physicians on hand during the event.

 

More than 30 educational booths will offer information about health, wellness and injury prevention, giving families an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about resources available in their community.

 

Visitors can also learn potentially lifesaving skills through Stop the Bleed training and choking first aid demonstrations, along with education on fall prevention and bicycle safety.

 

Bike Helmet Giveaway, Face Painting and Family Fun

 

There will be plenty for children to do throughout the day. Bike East Bay will host a Bike Rodeo, where children can learn about bicycle safety, and free bike helmets will be given away while supplies last.

 

The popular Touch-a-Truck experience will return, giving children of all ages the opportunity to explore utility trucks and emergency vehicles, including fire engines and ambulances, and meet some of the professionals who operate them.

 

Bollywood and Cultural Entertainment

 

Live entertainment throughout the day will celebrate the diversity of the Tri-City community, including:

• 10:45 a.m. – Wadaiko Newark Taiko showcasing the art form of kumidaiko (ensemble drumming with Japanese drums).
• 11:30 a.m. – Amankaya Ballet Folklórico is a dedicated cultural dance group focused on celebrating Mexican heritage through vibrant regional folk dances.
• 12:30 p.m. – Sun Bollywood performing a dynamic form of dance that draws from various Indian dance styles, including classical, folk, and contemporary.
• 1:15 p.m. – The Dream Achievers Band is an award-winning musical ensemble of artists with autism who perform locally and internationally to promote joy, love, and inclusion.

 

Celebrating Two Years of Trauma Care

 

This year’s Road to Wellness Health Fair also celebrates the second anniversary of Washington Health’s Level II Trauma Center.

 

Since opening in July 2024, the trauma center has treated more than 5,000 patients with injuries resulting from falls, automobile crashes and other accidents involving motorcycles, bicycles, skateboards and scooters. However, the work of a trauma center extends beyond treating people after serious injuries occur. Injury prevention and community education are also important parts of its mission.

 

Trauma Medical Director and surgeon Chet Morrison, MD; Trauma Center Director Jennifer Kubisz, BSN, RN; and Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator Garrett Cordes will be available at the fair to talk with residents about injury prevention and free community safety classes.

 

What Families Need to Know

 

The Washington Health Road to Wellness Health Fair: Celebrating Two Years of Trauma Care takes place Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Washington West parking lot, 2500 Mowry Ave. in Fremont.

 

General parking is available at 39300 Civic Center Drive in Fremont, with accessible parking at Washington West. An American Sign Language interpreter will be provided.

 

Families are encouraged to bring water and snacks or a picnic lunch. Food can also be purchased at restaurants in Gateway Plaza across the street from Washington West.

 

The Road to Wellness Health Fair is part of Washington Health’s ongoing commitment to providing health, wellness and injury prevention education throughout the Tri-City Area.
