Unstitched: A Celebration of the Saree

“Unstitched: A Celebration of the Saree,” a landmark exhibit that reimagines one of the world’s most enduring cultural forms as a medium for contemporary fine art.
In a first-of-its-kind collaboration with the Asian Art Museum, we are debuting original art on saris (aka ‘sarees’) by more than 30 of India’s most prestigious contemporary creators, including Seema Kohli, Thota Vaikuntam, Thota Tharani, and Laxman Aelay.
Moving beyond fashion, these artists have used these six yards of silk as a living canvas to explore the poignant theme of Journey and Exile. The result is a powerful convergence of textile, storytelling, and South Asian identity.
