Kumkuma (Vermilion) – Upcoming Art Show Reception

The series ‘Kumkuma (Vermilion)’ symbolizes power, auspiciousness, and the divine. In the Indian tradition, kumkuma is a vermilion powder, mainly made from turmeric and lime, and is used for social and religious markings. Typically worn as a tilak (marking) on the forehead near the third eye chakra, which is believed to be an important spot for spiritual receptivity, kumkuma represents the energy and vitality of life force. The very essence of kumkuma is sacred and spiritual. It is also the epitome of the divine feminine force.
The vivid vermilion hue is a symbol of strength, bravery, and good fortune. It is the inspiration behind this series by Samantha Chundur, which uses dynamic movements to celebrate a color that is integral to India’s rich traditions.
