Beyond the Sharp Edge: Iconography of Indic Arms
October 21 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm PDT
Free
Indian arms and armor are frequently adorned with auspicious and sacred imagery to induce shakti (divine power) to enter them, thus transforming functional objects into implements that hold within them the quality of numen—magical or divine power. This presentation will survey the varieties of Hindu sacred images—goddesses, gods, demi-gods, mythological beasts—that adorn arms and armor of the Indian subcontinent, and explore the underlying reasons why these specific images may have been chosen among the vast pantheon of Indian sacred imagery.
Please join us for a presentation by Ravinder Reddy on October 21 where he will discuss the varieties of Hindu sacred images that adorn arms and armor of the Indian subcontinent.
