Rangoli Dance Company presents “Paintings of the Divine.” Conceived and directed by award-winning choreographer Malathi Iyengar, the dance recital showcases newly choreographed works that reveal the splendor of bharatanatyam.

The dance concert is devoted to solos, duets, trios, and groups featuring vibrant technique and storytelling. The concert will include lighting design by Eileen Cooley, costume design by Lakshmi Iyengar, and set design by Suresh Iyengar.
“Paintings of the Divine” features company members Sheila Aula, Vyshnavi Aysola, Anjali Gopalan, Lakshmi Iyengar, Malathi Iyengar, Shilpa Mantri, Sumathi Nanguneri, Sandhya Rajan, and Soumya Sundaresh. The evening will also feature guest dancer Navia Natarajan.

Regarded as one of the leading dance makers in Los Angeles, Malathi Iyengar has created a body of work that is rigorous, and intellectually and philosophically stimulating, but always imbued with excellence in tradition and strong intent. During her career, Iyengar has created more than 20 full-length works and numerous individual dances.
Iyengar began Rangoli Foundation to realize a creative vision of presenting the visual and performing arts of India established in 1985, and in 1992, she formed Rangoli Dance Company. Consisting of a high caliber core and guest artists, the company has given numerous performances throughout the United States, Canada, and India.n
