The Santa Clara County Library District (SCCLD) will reopen the fully remodeled 24,000 square foot Campbell Library in a grand opening celebration set for Saturday, May 9. Construction of the building and landscape is complete. and library staff are starting to move in brand new furniture, equipment, and thousands of books.

The City of Campbell and SCCLD have worked in partnership with Measure O, a $50 million bond measure passed by Campbell voters in 2018. The original Measure O funds allocated $20.5 million to the library project, alongside a $4.7 million infrastructure California State Library grant, and an additional Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) $500,000 electrification demonstration grant to build a fully electric facility and a $4.7 million. The Library District contributed approximately $510,000 toward interior amenities and programming, while the Friends of the Campbell Library raised another $250,000. 

“The new Campbell Library reflects many years of working together with our community and the Santa Clara County Library District,” said Campbell City Manager Brian Loventhal. “Thanks to the support of the Campbell voters through Measure O, along with additional grant funding, this project to be completed. We are proud to deliver a modern, all-electric facility that will serve our community for generations and be a place where people and innovation thrive.”

What do patrons have to look forward to?

The renovation includes floor-to-ceiling windows that span two floors, that allow lnatural ight into the Children’s Room, Teen section, and area for adults, and a flexible community gathering space called The Overlook on the upper floor, which overlooks the Orchard Green. Meeting rooms are available on this floor, complete with a wall monitor as a resource for study groups, collaboration meetings, and more. Amenities include a downstairs browsing area which offers laptops to borrow, free WiFi, booths, and plenty of seating.

“Many of the brand-new features in the Campbell Library have been carefully thought out and designed to provide a beautiful, welcoming community place that blends the best of modern convenience, flexible spaces, and excellent library services,” said County Librarian Jennifer Weeks. “We can’t wait to celebrate this new chapter in the city’s history with the grand opening of the Campbell Library!”
