India Currents gave me a voice in days I was very lost. Having my articles selected for publishing was very validating – Shailaja Dixit, Executive Director, Narika, Fremont

Starting as an informal group of musically inclined friends, Jashn has matured into a 30-member troupe with exceptional talents in singing, dancing, and acting. As a young and dynamic group, the team believes in celebrating life through music, and giving back to it in form of charity fundraising.
Jashn, as the name depicts, is a celebration of art, music, dance, and drama. Founded in 2008, the troupe is dedicated to creating and performing thematic productions. Ranging across all genres, from romantic comedies to contemporary styles, Jashn aims to depict every walk of life in a unique and entertaining way.
The group prides itself on presenting simple plots with a unique twist. The productions aim to showcase conceptual creativity, while having the advantage of being a comprehensive stage show, with all its elements. The styles of art vary from dramatic and cliched Bollywood plots to contemporary and abstract narrating of an idea. These artistic presentations are the team’s way of expressing distintive perspectives on life.
Jashn’s current production, Hum Tum, began in 2008 with a simple, albeit overdone, theme—the battle of the genders. Inarguably, this a theme that is highly relatable and enjoyable and the Jashn team began focusing its efforts on presenting this theme with a unique twist and refreshing flavor.
The storyline of Hum Tum is meant to tug at the heartstrings of the audience, and  bring forth characters that endear, music that narrates, and dancing that celebrates. The production is a fundraising effort for Asha for Education, Berkeley.

Sunday, July 12, 5-7 p.m. McAfee Theater, Saratoga High School, 20300 Herriman Ave., Saratoga. $15, $20 advanced; $20, $25 at door. www.ejashn.org.
