A dance-theatre Bharatanatyam production titled “As You Are” will premiere at BAM House in Oakland, offering an exploration of women’s experiences through movement and personal narratives. Developed by Shruti Abhishek Dance in collaboration with Narika, a nonprofit supporting domestic violence survivors, six dancers will participate in the performance to illuminate complex stories of resilience, motherhood, and personal sacrifice.

The interdisciplinary work weaves together powerful vignettes drawn from real-life experiences, focusing on themes rarely discussed openly within South Asian communities. By partnering with Narika, a Fremont-based organization with over three decades of supporting survivors, the production grounds its artistic expression in authentic lived realities.

The performances will take place on Friday, September 12 at 8:00 PM; Saturday, September 13 at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM; and Sunday, September 14 at 2:00 PM.
