Akanksha Education Fund has been named a Certifying Organization for the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA), the organization announced. This award recognizes individuals who dedicate their time to strengthening communities across the United States and inspires those around them to take action, too.

Established in 2003 by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, the PVSA highlights the invaluable contributions of volunteers. As a Certifying Organization, Akanksha will now have the authority to verify volunteer service hours and present the PVSA to those who meet the required criteria.

Akanksha Education Fund, a US-based non-profit organization, supports education initiatives in India. They provide funding and raise awareness for two primary goals: providing a holistic education for children at 26 schools through The Akanksha Foundation and supporting young adults in transitioning smoothly from school to work. Building Bridges is a popular summer program that pairs US-based high school students with Akanksha high school students for virtual workshops. The organization also offers an internship program through which interested youth can gain experience and community service hours.

No Paywalls, No Algorithms — How do we do it?

We know you get a lot of requests for support from us and you deserve an explanation for why we do this.

Good journalism costs real money because it takes talented people.  Technology helps a little bit (and costs a lot), but there is no substitute for real reporting skills.

So, how do we pay for our journalism?  Not too long ago, advertising helped sustain newsrooms. Today, Less than 20% of our income comes from advertisements.

We depend on readers like you to keep us going.

In a world full of digital noise, we stay focused on building community through stories for the Indian diaspora.

Will you help us?
