India Currents gave me a voice in days I was very lost. Having my articles selected for publishing was very validating – Shailaja Dixit, Executive Director, Narika, Fremont

Dear Readers: Over the past three decades, you have been a loyal reader of India Currents magazine. You have kept us honest, you challenged us, you helped us push boundaries.

As new immigrants, we have explored our hyphenated identities together and helped navigate political, cultural and social situations in our new home. Our  children have grown up reading these stories and grandparents have pored over every page. Our Events  calendar has remained the go-to guide for organizers and readers alike.

Even as technology has transformed the media landscape, you still turn to India Currents. In our 31st year in business, we have resolved to  fully embrace the digital platform. Towards this end, we are discontinuing the print magazine to focus our resources towards increasing our digital footprint.

This change has, in large measure, been prompted by your actions. We find that an increasing number of you turn to our digital platforms to access our content. We have the opportunity to extend our platform to all of you to serve as a medium to express your thoughts and ideas, unrestricted by space constraints. We also can use the immediacy of the digital medium to disseminate ideas.

From its inception, India Currents has had a unique model – we have no writers in-house. Along with columnists, some of whom have written for us for many years, the bulk of our stories have come from readers. Stories are told by the community and for the community. Our editors help craft them into award-winning pieces! India Currents then helps amplify each voice to a wider audience. This is community journalism at its best.

We need you, our readers and supporters, on this journey –  we cannot do this on our own! There are plenty of ways to support us. And most of them don’t involve a penny.

SEND US IDEAS: Our small team relies on the community’s eyes and ears to know what’s happening in your communities. We want to hear from you!

GET OUR EMAILS: We have a weekly round-up of our best stories. Our emails are always free and you can unsubscribe anytime. Sign up here.

REVIEW US ON FACEBOOK: Tell us how we’re doing by writing a quick review on Facebook. We love to hear from you.

ADVERTISE: Market your business or service to a targeted demographic through multiple channel platforms (web, social media, newsletters, etc.).

DONATE OR BECOME A MEMBER: We never charge to read our stories, but content is not free to produce. Make a one-time contribution or give monthly.

Keep community journalism alive – we ask for your support today!
