It’s just one week until Election Day. On Nov. 5, Americans will cast their ballots for the next US president. They will also get to pick who will represent them in the Senate, Congress, County, and local levels.
Voting is one of the most important ways for communities to represent their concerns and voice what matters to them.
This year, California had 10 propositions on the ballot. That can get confusing for both first-time and seasoned voters!
That’s why India Currents collaborated with CalMatters to hold a “Voter Information Night” event at Shosha in Sunnyvale on Oct. 25, 2024.
There was trivia and prizes, while participants enjoyed food, drinks, and chai.
Then we began the serious business of discussing the pros and cons of ballot propositions and how they could impact communities.
India Currents is a non-profit newsroom for the Indian American diaspora; if you enjoy our free stories, please lend us your support.
Dan Hu, who manages strategic partnerships at CalMatters, explained statewide propositions using short video clips titled “Props in a Minutes” that introduced each measure. Hu has traveled around the state and has done more than 30 similar events. He then led guests in an engaging discussion about several key propositions.
The India Currents team introduced the India Currents’ voter guide and our catalog “Bay Area Desis on the Ballot.” Our Voter Guide offers critical information on how to register, cast your ballot, vote, deadlines and key dates. Our Desis on the Ballot catalog reviews more than 20 Indian American candidates running for office in the San Francisco Bay Area. It is available in English, Hindi, Telugu, and Punjabi in a downloadable PDF.
