Donald Trump trounced Nikki Haley in her home state of South Carolina, according to exit polls, winning over 67% of the votes and potentially all 29 delegates up for grabs.
Haley remains Trump’s last major GOP challenger in the race but with this latest win, he moves closer to securing the Republican presidential nomination.
Onstage in Columbia, Trump hailed his victory saying “It’s a great day,” and that he was looking forward to Super Tuesday when 15 states vote on March 5.
Haley has vowed to stay in the race saying ‘I refuse to quit’ earlier in the campaign trail perhaps signaling her intention to keep going given that Trump, despite being the GOP front runner, also faces a slew of criminal charges. Or she may be laying the groundwork for a future run at the GOP nomination four years from now.
“I am not going anywhere,” she told reporters earlier this month. “We have a country to save. And I am determined to keep on going the entire way. As long as we can keep closing that gap, I’m gonna keep staying in.”
