Upaya Social Ventures, a non-profit committed to raising people from extreme poverty through dignified job creation, announced a change of leadership recently. Starting August 1, Kate Cochran, who has been CEO since 2016 will step down as CEO. Shruti Goel and AB Chakravarthy will take over as the new co-CEOs.
Upaya was founded in 2011. With Cochran at its helm, the nonprofit transitioned through a crucial stage, as she led its accelerator program, adopting impact and investment standards around gender and climate, and growing the portfolio of startups substantially.
AB Chakravarthy has been Upaya’s India Country Director for the past three years and brings over fifteen years of experience in early enterprise. In his new role he will lead investments, portfolio management, and operations for Upaya.
Shruti Goel has been Director of Impact at Upaya for the last two and a half years and has worked with international corporations and organizations for over 16 years. She will be leading fundraising, social impact performance, and communications at Upaya in her capacity as co-CEO starting August.
