San Diego-based theater outfit The Old Globe has announced the full cast and creative team for the world premiere of “House of India,” a new comedy by playwright Deepak Kumar. The show stars a talented cast of Broadway performers and will run from May 10 to June 1, 2025, in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre in San Diego, with opening night on May 15.
“House of India” follows Ananya, the owner of a struggling Indian restaurant in a Cleveland strip mall. She must decide whether to keep her late husband’s traditional menu or embrace a trendy, fusion-forward approach.
“House of India asks fascinating and deep questions about identity and Americanness as it reminds us that immigrant communities are the engines that forge our national culture,” said Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein. “Deepak Kumar cannily uses food and cuisine as a way to consider authenticity, assimilation, and change, and he simultaneously makes an American family play that’s truly touching and very funny.”
Drama Desk Award-nominee Zi Alikhan is the director, and the cast includes Supriya Ganesh, Mahira Kakkar, Deven Kolluri, and Tommy Bo. Tickets start at $31.
