Food banks in North Texas face a surge in demand as the region reels in the wake of SNAP benefit delays and the federal government shutdown, compounded by persistent inflation and widespread layoffs; Though the North Texas Food  Bank (NTFB) and Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB) are working urgently to keep community pantries stocked and to continue mobile distributions, rising demand far exceeds what food banks can meet on their own.

Organizations like HungerMitao are stepping up to strengthen emergency food distribution at a time of exceptional need. HungerMitao announced a generous contribution from DFW-based footwear company Twisted X Global Brands, which donated one million meals through the HungerMitao Million Meals Program to directly benefit NTFB and TAFB.

“This contribution is a powerful testament to the compassion of our community,” said Raj  Asava, Founder of HungerMitao. “At a moment when hunger is growing, Twisted X has stepped forward to help thousands of families across North Texas.”

HungerMitao, meaning “Wipe Out Hunger” (in Hindi), is a volunteer-driven grassroots movement aimed at raising awareness about hunger in the United States. The organization mobilizes communities to address the issue by strengthening community engagement and channeling the resources and generosity of the Indian American community to support hunger relief through the Feeding America network of food banks. Founded in 2017 by Raj and Aradhana Asava, HungerMitao has enabled more than 80 million nutritious meals across Feeding  America and its partner food banks throughout the country.

The donated meals will bolster both NTFB  and TAFB’s capacity to rapidly procure high-need food items and ensure mobile and pantry distributions remain uninterrupted for those who need them most.

“Compassion is one of our highest priorities at Twisted X, and I feel we have a responsibility as a business and as humans to help our local community in times of need,” said Prasad  Reddy, Twisted X Global Brands CEO. “It is our intent to pay it forward in hopes that others  will too.”
