On April 24, 2025, the Association of Indo-Americans (AIA) held a candlelight vigil in Milpitas to commemorate the victims of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir region. Community members and elected officials gathered to pay tribute to the 26 people who lost their lives and offer condolences to the grieving families.
The vigil saw a large turnout of community members who expressed their deep anguish and condemned the heinous attack. Attendees called upon both Indian and US authorities to take strong action against terrorists and their supporters. A coalition of faiths and organizations declared that terror has no religion or region, and directly attacks humanity’s values and life’s sanctity.
Elected officials like Santa Clara City Councilmembers Raj Chahal and Suds Jain; Fremont City Councilmember Dr. Yang Shao; Fremont Unified School District Board member; and Vivek Prasad, Milpitas City Unified School District member attended the vigil, along with community members.
More vigils are planned for Sunday, April 27 at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco at 11 am; at the State Capitol in Sacramento at 5 pm; and outside San Jose City Hall at 5:30 pm.

We know you get a lot of requests for support from us and you deserve an explanation for why we do this.
Good journalism costs real money because it takes talented people. Technology helps a little bit (and costs a lot), but there is no substitute for real reporting skills.
So, how do we pay for our journalism? Not too long ago, advertising helped sustain newsrooms. Today, Less than 20% of our income comes from advertisements.
We depend on readers like you to keep us going.
In a world full of digital noise, we stay focused on building community through stories for the Indian diaspora.
Will you help us?
