EnActe Arts announced the launch of its inaugural EnActe International Playwriting
Competition (EIPC). This ambitious new initiative is dedicated to spotlighting original theatrical voices that explore global stories that offer a South Asian perspective.
Submissions will open on June 15, 2025, and close on September 15, 2025. There is no submission fee. All semifinalists will receive one-on-one developmental assistance from EIPC jury members.
Playwrights of any nationality, race, ethnicity, etc. are welcome to apply. The competition seeks bold, compelling plays that engage/explore topics of importance for South Asian communities.

“One out of every four people in the world today is South Asian– their perspectives deserve a powerful global stage,” says Vinita Sud Belani, EnActe’s Artistic Director and the Competition Coordinator. “South Asia encompasses almost every religion known to man, has the youngest, fastest-growing population in the world, and represents over eight millennia of continuous civilization.”
The EIPC is a natural evolution of EnActe’s mission: to fuse Eastern and Western
storytelling traditions and championing underrepresented voices.
Among the luminaries involved are theater leaders Robert Kelley, Matthew Spangler, Kathy
Foley, Susan McCully, Aroon Shivdasani, and other renowned jurors and dramaturgs.
The finalists will be showcased at a New Works Festival and will have opportunities for further development and/or world premiere productions with EnActe.
