Anadil Hossain, founder of Dillywood, joins team

International producer Anadil Hossain has come onboard for The Day My Brain Exploded, the eagerly awaited film adaptation of Ashok Rajamani’s acclaimed memoir of the same name.

Hossain is known for her work in award-winning films like The Darjeeling Limited, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, and The Namesake, as well as Bollywood blockbusters such as Kal Ho Naa Ho, Swades, and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.  She is the founder of Dillywood, a production company dedicated to diverse and underrepresented narratives. Her ability to connect cultures and forge strong relationships between the world’s most influential film industries has made her a prominent fixture in global cinema.

The Day My Brain Exploded is the astonishing true survival story of Ashok Rajamani, a first-generation Indian American who, at the age of 25, experiences a full-throttle, catastrophic brain hemorrhage at his brother’s wedding, which leaves him with unimaginable consequences.  Bold, pioneering, and shockingly funny, the book has garnered universal praise, including raves from Pulitzer Prize luminaries. Skillfully navigating complex issues of disability, racism, and cultural taboos, it has been hailed as the first South Asian American memoir of its kind.

“I am excited to partner with Ashok in adapting his book for screen,” said Hossain. “His extraordinary personal story enthralls the reader in a rich rollercoaster of wit and wisdom, pathos, charm, and incisive social observation.  He turns his devastating near-fatal brain injury into one of deep reflection, redemption, and rebirth through humor and hope.”
