On February 13, veteran matchmaker and dating coach Jasbina Ahluwalia chatted with India Currents community reporter Tanay Gokhale to kick off the Chai & Chat series. The half hour long event was livestreamed on Instagram

Among other subjects, Jasbina shared her thoughts on the hit Netflix show Indian Matchmaking, pointing out that some parts of it were not consistent with the progressive matchmaking that her company Intersections Match practices. “Very entertaining show,” she said, but “it was also very thought-provoking and got a lot of us thinking about a lot of things.”

She also spoke about the concept of progressive matchmaking, and answered the audience’s questions about the process she uses to set her clients up for success in their relationships. On that subject, it was only a matter of time before the live audience asked for dating advice, and Jasbina obliged by sharing her thoughts on the ideas of “deal breakers and must-haves”.

“I am a big believer in having dealbreakers and must-haves,” she said. “I like them to be values-driven as opposed to driven by what someone thinks someone should have.” Jumping off that, she stressed on the importance of being introspective and absolutely clear about one’s own needs and desires when looking for a life partner.
