Sewa International USA is immediately releasing an additional $2500 to help the extremely poor and desolate flood victims in Pakistan’s Sindh province.“We are really encouraged by the reports we received from the Hare Rama Foundation (HRF) in Pakistan. Donors’ money is put to good use by the foundation” said Professor Sree Sreenath, President, Sewa International USA.

Sewa USA led a multi-group effort with Hindu American Foundation (HAF) to raise funds for Pakistan’s flood victims and announced a $5000 matching grant in early November. Sewa funded Hare Rama Foundation in December to help start the relief efforts.

“The Hare Rama Foundation distributed warm clothes to 800 families in seven districts in Sindh. We recently received a detailed report, video, photos and a list of beneficiaries from the foundation,” said Anil Deshpande, Vice President of Development of Sewa.

“Each flood victim family received a bag that contained a blanket, a winter coat and 2 adult and 2 kids’ sweaters to keep them warm in winter. In many places HRF volunteers took these to victims’ doorsteps to deliver,” Deshpande added.

“The Hare Rama Foundation helped 175 families in Umer Kot district, 173 in Badin, 62 in Jamshoro, 170 in Tando Allah Yar, 70 in Sangher, 100 in Khairpur Mirs and 50 in Noshera Feroze District,” Deshpande elaborated.

Floods in 2010 and heavy monsoon downpour last year caused extensive damage in Sindh province in Pakistan. Millions of displaced people are hungry, homeless and desperately seeking help. Sewa USA is working through Hare Rama Foundation, a local, registered non-profit organization based in Punjab, Pakistan.

The Hare Rama Foundation works very closely with marginalized sections of the Pakistani society. Registered with the Government of Pakistan as a non-governmental and non-profit organization, the Hare Rama Foundation focuses on providing education in rural areas, creating awareness on gender and women rights and building interfaith harmony.

How to Help

SEWA International (www.sewausa.org) is requesting individuals, citizen groups, community organizations, and companies to generously donate their time and tax-deductible monetary contributions to SEWA for helping Pakistan’s flood victims. Please donate online at http://www.sewausa.org or make your check payable to ‘SEWA International’ and put “Pakistan Flood Relief Fund” in the memo area and send it to SEWA International, USA 3908 Westhollow Parkway, Houston, TX 77082.

The Hare Rama Foundation has been providing food, warm clothing, and other essentials to flood victims. The donations Sewa USA receives for this cause will help expand and strengthen the foundation’s relief operations.

SEWA believes that “Service to humanity is service to God” and calls on community members to contact their local SEWA chapters to help Pakistan’s minority community worst hit by the floods. For more information on how to help and to get involved in Pakistan Flood Relief efforts please call (708) USA-SEWA, or email at info@sewausa.org.

Sewa volunteers have built up a great reputation for providing relief to disaster victims. The 2004 Tsunami in the Indian Ocean, Hurricane Katrina in the US in 2005, the 2009 Andhra- Karnataka floods in India and the recent Sikkim Earthquake are a few recent examples of the effective relief operations Sewa International managed through its partner organizations.
