Guru Shradha presents Kelucharan Keerti Sampradaya Festival 2018, on September 29th in Woodside, California. This year’s festival will feature a rare opportunity to see two generations of the world’s most renowned Odissi family carrying on the legacy of the legendary master who was their father and grandfather, the late Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra’s son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, Guru Ratikant, Guru Sujata and Preetisha Mohapatra. They will join Guru Shradha’s acclaimed founder and director, Niharika Mohanty, who received Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra’s blessing to establish a North American institution devoted to sustaining the Odissi tradition in his style which began a decade ago, after his demise. As a special acknowledgement of the school’s 10th anniversary, in the repertoire we include the organization’s most highly appreciated items over the past decade.

The festival program will feature traditional choreography of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra and newer choreography of Guru Ratikant Mohapatra in spellbinding solo pieces performed by the senior artists, interspersed with captivating group presentations performed by Guru Shradha students. Guru Ratikant Mohapatra will perform his own choreography of Shabari, in which he will portray the title character, Shabari, an elderly woman who is ardently devoted to Rama and received his attention and blessing due to her devotion to him in the renowned Hindu epic, Ramayana; Guru Sujata Mohapatra will be presenting her powerful Durga, a renowned piece of her father-in-law’s, while Preetisha will present the enchanting Pallavi. Niharika performs Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra’s Pashyati Dishi Dishi, an expressional piece from the famous Gita Govindam, with this particular one in the role of Radha’s friend and messenger to Krishna urging him to go to her as she is in a state of depression, delusion and dejection.
